World No Tobacco Day 2023 - “Get Set, Go! Towards our Tobacco-free Future”

World Health Organization (WHO) designates 31 May as World No Tobacco Day every year. COSH launched a publicity programme with the theme of “Get set, Go! Towards our Tobacco-free Future” in 2023 to echo World No Tobacco Day. A series of themed activities were held to motivate smokers for smoking cessation and appeal non-smokers to encourage smokers to quit smoking, in order to step forward to achieve the tobacco-free goal.

 

Kick-off Event

COSH, in collaboration with Metro Broadcast Corporation Limited organized a kick-off event on 28 May 2023. Officiating guests included Dr LO chung-mau (Secretary of Health), Dr Ronald LAM (Director of Health), Mr Henry FAN (Chairman of Hospital Authority), Mr Henry TONG (COSH Chairman), Dr Johnnie CHAN (COSH Vice-chairman) and Ms Vienna LAI (COSH Executive Director). Smoke-free Ambassador, “Wise Mike” also meet the public at the event and encourage the public to join hands to move towards a tobacco-free Hong Kong.

 

A sharing session was specially arranged at the event. Dr Kingsley CHAN (Dermatology Specialist), Prof William CHUI (President of The Society of Hospital Pharmacists of Hong Kong) and Prof LAM Tai-hing (Emeritus Professor of The University of Hong Kong; Honorary Clinical Professor of School of Public Health of HKU) were invited to clarify the common misconceptions about the harms of smoking and promote the importance of being smoke-free to the public. Artists Cath WONG and Paula AU, together with Trail runner Mr KK CHAN and 13th “Quit to Win” winner Mr Wai kit CHENG showed the advantages of exercise demonstrating basic stretching skills. Little Life Warrior Choir and Hong Kong Rehabilitation Power Chinese Orchestra also encourage people to achieve a healthy life by Live music performances.

 

Smoke-free Sportswear Day

 

COSH held the Smoke-free Sportswear Day on 31 May, encouraged stakeholders and public to quit smoking by wearing sportswear and doing exercise. Over 100 organizations including companies, organization, NGOs, hospital, schools and 225 individuals, over 4,000 people in total joined to echo the event. Some organizations promoted the Programme via website, online platform and intranet, and set up promotion booth for smoke-free souvenir’s distribution and poster display. 

 

Organizations and schools with the highest number of participants on the “Sportswear Day” were awarded the “The Most Active Participation Award”. “The Most Energetic Supporting Organization” and “The Most Creative Supporting Organization” were also awarded to recognize the efforts of organizations in promoting the programme in creative ways.

Roadshow Promotion

Roadshow promotion session was held in mid-June 2023, smoke-free promotional collaterals were distributed to encourage public to complete the smoke-free missions.

 

WhatsApp/Signal Stickers

Smoke-Free Ambassador, Wise Mike launched a set of smoke-free Whatsapp and Signal Stickers for the public to promote a healthy lifestyle by doing exercise and share among families and friends through daily mobile or online chit-chat.
