Smoke-free Run

Everyone knows smoking is hazardous to health while doing exercise is good for health. Quitting smoking and doing exercise are indeed complementary to each other. Exercise can help resist tobacco craving and ease withdrawal symptoms. A study1 showed that running helped people quit smoking and reduce tobacco consumption. Kicking the smoking habit can also improve one’s sports performance (More information on Exercise and smoking cessation). Hong Kong Council on Smoking and Health (COSH) will organize the "Smoke-free Run” on 13 January 2019 (Sunday)to encourage and assist smokers in quitting smoking through running, as well as motivate the public to build a healthy smoke-free lifestyle.

The running race will be divided to different categories according to distances (10KM, 3KM and 800M), Individual, Smoke-free Family Team, School Team, Corporate Team and Smoke-free Buddy Team. COSH has invited local cartoon character, B.Duck to design a set of key visuals with smoke-free healthy tips. Each participant will receive a race pack with a T-shirt, a sports towel, a drawstring bag, a race bib with timing chip and a finisher medal. A carnival with interesting game booths and exhibition booths will also be held right after the Run to disseminate smoke-free messages to participants and their families. Smoke-free athlete, B.Duck will also come to support and cheer for the participants onsite.
